The Sheepscot Valley Children’s House, founded in 1983, is a private school for children aged between three and seven years. Located in Wiscasset, the school greets approximately 60 children from throughout the Midcoast region each year. 

We welcome children in learning- about themselves, other people the arts, nature, the world. We emphasize respect for oneself and others and reverence for the human spirit as well as the intellect.

We provide a nurturing, stimulating, and happy environment where children are guided toward the pleasure of learning, sometimes in the company of friends, sometimes quietly on their own. Our days are full of discovery and fun.

The atmosphere is relaxed but ordered. Classrooms are inviting and well equipped to provide opportunities for children to realize and develop their particular interests. Our play area, overlooking the beautiful Sheepscot River, is the perfect place for outdoor fun.

The school is fortunate to have a dedicated staff of outstanding teachers. They bring years of experience in both traditional and Montessori methods of teaching and most importantly, a deep commitment to helping children grow intellectually, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and socially.

Our multi-age Kindergarten-First grade classroom gives older children a strong foundation in reading, writing, and mathematics during the critical first years of primary school. Students enjoy individual attention in a small, supportive class and are well prepared for the next step.

The Sheepscot Valley Children’s House is in many ways a family as well as a school. For many people, the community of parents who share in and care for it becomes an important part of the Sheepscot Valley experience.
